Saturday Conference Sessions
Keynote : Pastor Sam Tse, Cedar Grove Baptist Church
What does it mean for us to be steadfast and immovable in the work of the Lord as a conference? How are we to be faithful as the church here in Canada within our respective communities and collectively across the nation?
Bio Sam Tse
Sam is a recent addition to the BCBC, coming on to staff officially at the end of 2021 as the Director of Leadership and Ministries at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Surrey, B.C. He’s been married to his beloved wife Margarita for the past decade and together they have three beautiful children, Mateo (20), Victoria (6), & Elena (1). He returned with the family in 2019 after a 4 year term in Bolivia, as Country Director, following a decade of missionary work abroad. It was intended to be just a furlough year prior to returning to the field, but the Lord has re-directed Sam & his family’s path for this season.
Sam has a background in communications & finances from SFU, but continued his education at Regent College as the Lord called him into longer term ministry. He is a recent graduate of the Arrow Leadership Program’s Executive Stream and continually finds himself in the context of supporting communities of believers through uncertain times and transition. He has a heart for discipleship and evangelism and is passionate about seeing the Gospel transform lives and communities locally and to the ends of the earth!
Practical Discipleship: Connie Main Duarte
Practical Discipleship – what does it look like to actually walk alongside someone on a journey of discipleship, how do I even start, what are some resources to help me, should this be structured or unstructured? This workshop would be for people who have heard about discipleship but perhaps have never been discipled themselves or want to disciple others but they don’t know where to start.
Evangelism & Discipleship: Sam Tse
“Faithful to the Call” What does it mean for us to be steadfast and immovable in the work of the Lord as a conference? This workshop will focus on our call and challenge from scripture as to how we might engage, wrestle & walk obediently forward together. How are we to be faithful as the church here in Canada within our respective communities and collectively across the nation? The answer might not be as complicated as we make it to be! Our loving Lord is sovereign and His burden is light, let’s explore together His instruction on how we are to be vessels for His transformation among us
A Welcoming Church: Christian Pye
How can churches intentionally welcome people into their midst, what are some practical physical changes we can make to our spaces to make them feel more welcoming. How do we foster an atmosphere or culture of welcome?
Personal Mission Pursuit: Garth Borthistle
What does it look like to live life intentionally? What is the connection between clearing away clutter and having a stronger focus on kingdom moments? Can you articulate your calling and mission in life? More importantly, how do you allow it to shape your day to day life? These questions and more will be discussed at this workshop. You will leave with greater clarity on living life intentionally and leading others to do the same. The Bible gives us plenty of understanding on this topic, so using this as a base for who God made you to be and how to live it out will be the foundation we will build upon.
