Interpreting The Bible

Bethany Scratch,

Brookswood Baptist Church

Hermeneutics, or, the discipline of handling the Word of God well: It is not enough to merely tell people to read their Bibles; we must also teach them how. Hermeneutics is a toolbox of essential principles, thoughtful guidelines, and time-tested practices for the study and interpretation of Scripture for genuine life change. Good hermeneutics also ensure we honour Scripture as the Word of God and equip us to seek the truth above human opinions, desires, and judgement. This workshop will focus on the need for and benefits of good hermeneutics in the discipleship of every believer, with a brief discussion of those tools and how we can effectively model and faithfully pass on a love for the Word.

Bethany Scratch is a member of Brookswood Baptist Church in Langley, BC, where she leads the Women's Ministry. She is in the process of completing her master's in theological studies while working as a music teacher.

Session #2

Church - Leveraging Social Media

Nataizya Mukwavi

There’s no denying it. Social Media is part of our everyday life.

Social media is a big deal, and there are so many variables — from networks to strategies — that make it hard to get started.

Creating a powerful social media presence for your church doesn’t have to be scary. This workshop will give your church the tools to help you feel confident with social media.

Nataizya Mukwavi is currently the Executive Director of South Fraser Pregnancy Options in Surrey, British Columbia. She has completed a degree in Biblical Studies with a minor in Inter-cultural Studies from Columbia Bible College. She has also recently obtained a certificate in Project Management with a focus in leadership at Cornell University. Prior to joining Pregnancy Options, she was the Child Sponsorship Coordinator for Mercy Touch Mission International, which has an office based in Surrey, BC, and operates in Zambia, Africa. She has also launched The Girl Project which is a program for marginalized girls in a rural community in Ndola, Zambia. She has a vast experience working with and alongside people of various cultures and ethnic groups. Nataizya Mukwavi is the Founder of Black Women Connect Vancouver, a not-for-profit organization founded in 2017 serving to bridge gaps present in the local Black community, particularly those affecting Black women. Black Women Connect Vancouver has created a community of support based around the shared unique experiences of Black women.
